How Spammers Abuse Your Website or Blog Followers List Widget

Let’s say you have enabled a Followers list widget which shows the actual profile picture and the link of each of your followers on a list like this;

This allows your readers to check out other blogs. While doing so, they can also end up being on a spammers website which is totally unrelated to your blog or business. Here’s how you can prevent that from happening;

First, make sure there is no such followers list widget is enabled. Best security is sometimes no security at all. Which means that if you don’t show any followers list, nobody will be redirected to another harmful website or a blog. Simply disable this widget ih your WordPress blog.

Alternately, you can go in the Jetpack social widget followers settings and remove unidentified and spammer followers which is lot of word if you have time and patience for that.
