Multi-threaded File Transfer (FTP)

Also known as Concurrent file transfer, Multi-threaded FTP gets multiple files from multiple remote servers at the same time via multiple connections.

You can increase Feral box entry in Filezilla to increase parallel (concurrent) downloads.

Similarly, in Bitkinex, you can increase total number of connections (or feral number) by right-clicking Sftp/SSH –> Properties –> Connections (total number of connections). If you are on a very high speed internet connection (100Mbps or 1Gbps+), you can optionally increase the minimum part size to a max of 3276 for multi part downloads via connection properties under Transfer option.

Some of the multi-threaded or concurrent file transfer software examples include;

Windows: Bitkinex (http://www.bitkinex.com/), Filezilla

Segmented File Transfer (FTP)

Also known as multisource file-transfer or swarming file-transfer, a segmented file transfer software breaks up a single file into multiple temporary parts and estiblishes multiple connections for each part. Then it downloads all of those parts from remote server(s) via multiple connections and combines them all back into one file on the local computer. Torrent software i.e. BitTorrent work on the same pattern.

Windows: CuteFTP, iGetter, lftp via Cygwin
Mac OS X: Captain FTP, iGetter, lftp (via Homebrew or MacPorts)
Linux: lftp

  1. Multi threaded file transfer makes use of all the cores of the CPU.Today all the processors have multi threaded technology, it depends on the application/software to use that feature effectively. Some softwares do that others don’t. The software which I use provides 100% multi threaded file transfer, I use it for file transfer in windows as well as on the server as FTP client too. The transfer speed is just amazing and its other features are also awesome. Its a power packed software, tyr it! Hope it helps!

  2. I agree with Emiley, I pen drive or a hard disk would be best to transfer files from one pc to other. Its cheap and 3.0 hard disk and pen drive provide good speed but sometimes there are many small files which makes the transfer rate slow. A multi threaded file transfer software would work pretty well here. I am using GS Richcopy 360 and I would suggest you guys also to use it. I feel its the best in the market till now which I have used. Try it hope it helps!
